Higley leads Indians past Mt. Morris, 20-8

Photo by Keith Salisbury MT. MORRIS – Cole Higley passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third score as Chesaning’s varsity football team earned a 20-8 league win over host Mt. Morris last Friday.

Higley and Jacob Turnwald hooked up for a pair of first-half scoring passes as the Tribe established a 14-0 halftime lead. Tyler Willing kicked both extra points.

Turnwald was Higley’s favorite receiver as he caught seven passes for 154 yards. Zach Matsumiya was the only other Indian with more than one reception as he caught two aerials for nine yards.

Higley, who finished with 18 of 28 passing for 223 yards, also rushed 13 times for 106 yards, including a nine-yard run to pay dirt for the only score by CHS in the second half.

Matsumiya was the leading tackler for Chesaning with eight tackles. Garrett Quackenbush had seven stops while Turnwald, Nick Fowler and Brenden Quackenbush all had six tackles. Turnwald had two interceptions, Fowler had two sacks and Brenden Quackenbush had one sack. Higley and Nick Vargas each recovered a fumble for the Indians, who are now 3-5 overall.
