Chalk Talk

A Great Start

What a great start to school we have had so far this year. School has been in session now the first month of school, as I write this article and things are looking and running very well. The transportation department has worked through any initial issues and is very smoothly getting kids to and from school. All of our buildings have gotten off to smooth starts and have held their annual Open Houses for parents to come in and meet staff and see what we’re all about.

Our fall enrollment count shows an increase over what was projected last spring. It is always exciting to welcome new students to the St. Charles Community School family. Of course, this comes with some needs for classroom adjustments and additional hands; thank you for your understanding of this transition as our school numbers increase.

Fall Events

For the past few weeks our athletic teams have been competing on their respective fields of competition. We have had the pleasure to watch several of our fall sports teams in action. Next week is our Homecoming Week; with many exciting events on the agenda. Thank you to our Pride Committee for their commitment to the decorating of the town and area around the school for the big game. It is always wonderful to see many former students and community members come out to celebrate our annual homecoming traditions. If you haven’t been out to see any of our students compete in football, volleyball, or cross-country this fall, make it a point to come out and show your support for them.

Student Learning

Academically we continue to demonstrate sound school programs and work for student growth and achievement. Our district M-Step scores showed an increase across the board, and we continue to progress monitor our students through NWEA throughout the year. This data is available through the MI School Data portal at Michigan Department of Education or by visiting our website. Our goals will always be to increase our students’ college and career readiness, so students have opportunities after high school.

Special Thank You

We would like to thank those people, who constantly strive to provide the best for our school and students. Our custodians worked all summer to get our buildings ready and did an excellent job getting buildings ready. Bus drivers came in early to lay out bus routes and orchestrate our transportation program. Building principals and secretaries started in mid-August getting things ready which allowed a very smooth start to our year. We would like to extend a thank you to all our employees and hope that the community knows how hard they work and how much they care about bringing your children the best education possible.

With Bulldog Pride,

Michael Decker
