Oktoberfest returns to Owosso this weekend

OWOSSO – Oktoberfest returns to downtown Owosso this coming weekend, Oct. 12 and 13. There will be beer, dancing, food and contests. Polka music begins at 5 p.m. each day, and the biergarden closes at midnight.

The featured band this year will be Lenny Gomulka and The Chicago Push, performing both days. He will be joined on Friday by DynaBrass, and on Saturday by Gerry Kaminski’s Polka Network. Also appearing on Saturday will be Ein Prosit on the main stage from 1 to 4 p.m.

Ein Prosit is made up of musicians from Michigan, Indiana and Illinois who enjoy playing and entertaining with a variety of German, Austrian and Bavarian Oktoberfest-style folk music. The band was founded in 2002 and currently has a roster of over 60 musicians, usually playing with a band of 35.

Members of the band dress in traditional German trachten and strive to preserve the rich German musical heritage. The band’s repertoire includes polkas, waltzes, sectional features, solos, audience participation pieces and singalongs; entertainment for the entire family.

The band has the traditional German Festival Band instrumentation and also includes accordion and cowbells. A very special feature of the group is its 10-member Alphorn section, Alphorngrupppe, which is featured at all Ein Prosit events.

The polka tent cover charge is $10 per person per day, or $15 for a weekend pass.

There will also be a 5K Beer Run, three-on-three basketball, pumpkin carving and pumpkin bowling, and bounce houses. See the schedule on this page for complete details, or visit www.oktoberfestinowosso.org.
