MONTROSE – Montrose Hill- McCloy High School will host its first Military Appreciation football game on Friday, Oct. 12. The Rams will play the Byron Eagles.

Military veterans will be honored at the game with free admission and acknowledgment during the pregame activities. Shirts commemorating the game are available for purchase at Hill- McCloy High School at a cost of $15 each; supplies are limited.

Special football jerseys were produced for the game, each honoring a veteran. The jerseys were sponsored by private donors. A jersey presentation with the sponsors will take place at the completion of the game.

All the proceeds collected through the sale of t-shirts, donations and sponsored football jerseys will go to Mission 22. Mission 22 is a group that combats veteran suicide by providing an army of support through a variety of programs; such as Save a Warrior, K9s for Warriors and others.

The Montrose community has faced the tragedies of veteran suicide. As a result, Hill-McCloy High School teachers Jason Perrin and Jeremy Harber took the lead to organize this salute.

Before the Oct. 12 game at 5 p.m., a veterans’ appreciation pig roast will be held in the school cafeteria, sponsored by the Jennings Memorial Foundation.

The Military Appreciation game starts at 7 p.m. Special game activities will be held to honor veterans.

Donations to Mission 22 can be made out to Montrose Community Schools and given to the ticket booths upon entry.
