CHESANING AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE will meet at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Chamber Office, 218 N. Front St., Chesaning.

• The MONTROSE AREA HISTORICAL SPEAKERS PROGRAM will feature “The Mushroom Houses of Boulder Park, Charlevoix” on Monday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at the museum, 144 Hickory St., Montrose. Watch this award-winning video and commentary on the large screen. During a period of 50 years, over 30 of these homes were built, designed by Earl Young. Admission is free, with light refreshments to follow.

BAZAARS AND CRAFT SHOWS

• There will be a CRAFTS BAZAAR on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 W. Brady Road, Chesaning. There will be lots of vendors with a wide variety of craft items as well as baked goods

and used books.

VENDORS ARE WANTED for a craft bazaar to be held Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 W. Brady Road, Chesaning. • Vendors are wanted for a FALL CRAFT BAZAAR to be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oakley Village Hall, 205 Parshall St., Oakley. The event is being organized by the Oakley Community Church Ladies’ Ministry. Tables are $15. MONTROSE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION Committee of the Whole will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 in the Kuehn-Haven Middle School media center, 303 Ray St., Montrose.

CHESANING UNION SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in the high school media center.

FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP

* New Lothrop VFW Post 6739 Auxiliary is holding its BEEF PASTY fundraising project. Pasty orders should be placed as soon as possible before the deadline on Friday, Oct. 19. The cost is $4 each. To place orders, contact Susan Jacobs at (810) 496-7647. Preordered pasties may be picked up at the Good Shepherd Family Life Center, 400 N. Saginaw St., Montrose, on Monday, Oct. 22 from 2 to 5 p.m., and on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from noon to 5 p.m. unless other arrangements are made.

* There will be a PANCAKE SUPPER on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. hosted by the Montrose Masonic Lodge, 130 Parkway St., Montrose. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for ages 12 and under.

• Chesaning American Legion Post 212, 15053 McKeighan Road, will hold its MONTHLY BREAKFASTS on the first Sunday of the month, beginning Oct. 7. The breakfasts will run from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 12-6, and free for children ages 5 and under. The menu will include pancakes, french toast, sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes, sausage gravy and biscuits, toast, juice, milk and coffee. Proceeds will help support youth programs and community service.

• There will be a COMMUNITY SOUP SUPPER on the second Saturday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 Brady St., Chesaning. No reservations are needed and there is no cost. The supper is open to all. Those in need of a ride should call (989) 845- 3157 Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Chesaning American Legion Post 212 Auxiliary will be having a BAKE SALE at the pancake breakfast on Sunday, Oct. 7 to benefit the Girls State program. Any donations are welcome.

• New Wine Church, 734 Brady St., Chesaning, holds a FREE COMMUNITY DINNER on the third Saturday of the month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Menu varies each month. Those who need a ride can call (989) 845-7878.

• There will be a WET BURRITO DINNER at the St. Charles Masonic Temple every third Friday of the month from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $10. The Masons will also deliver. Call (989) 865-8568.

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop will host a SOUP AND PIE SUPPER on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children (ages 5-12). Ages 4 and under eat free. The church is located at 7495 Orchard St. in New Lothrop.

• Worship with the SHELDON FAMILY SINGERS at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14 at Oakley Community Church, 327 S. Main St. (M-52) in Oakley.

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop will host

HEALTH AND SAFETY

TRI-TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, at Station No. 1, 106 Spruce St. in St. Charles.

• The CHESANING/BRADY FIRE DEPARTMENT BOARD will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 9 a.m. at Station No. 1 on Brady Road in Chesaning.

• Memorial Healthcare’s Community Wellness, Nutrition and Diabetes Center is hosting a HEALTHY HARVEST EVENT starting Monday, Oct. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This is an interactive course series for anyone interested in learning more about how to turn an interest in gardening into a source of nutrition and health. Participants learn to make healthy food choices and are encouraged to improve one’s health through nutrition and physical activity. Classes will be held at the Memorial Healthcare Community Wellness, Nutrition and Diabetes Center, Woodard Station (North Entrance), 317 S. Elm St., Suite 202, Owosso. The event is sponsored by Memorial Healthcare and the Michigan State University Extension and is free to attend. To reserve a space or for more information, call Memorial Healthcare at (989) 729-4700. • The Memorial Healthcare Community Wellness, Nutrition and Diabetes Center will present a PRE-DIABETES CLASS on Monday, Oct. 8 and 15 from 1 to 3 pm. Learn how to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes through healthy behavior changes. Memorial Healthcare Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator, Marla Price, will be the presenter for this event. The class will be held at the Memorial Healthcare Community Wellness, Nutrition and Diabetes Center, 317 S. Elm St., Suite 202, Owosso. The cost is $20 and payment is due at the first class. ODDS AND ENDS

• The ST. CHARLES MOVIES IN THE PARK summer series concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 8:30 p.m. in Coal Miners Park, 200 Parkway Dr. in St. Charles. The free movie will be Ghostbusters (1984) .

• There will be a NEW MUSIC JAM at the Marion Springs Conservation Club, 20390 W. Brant Road, Brant, on the second Tuesday of each month from 2-4 p.m. Acoustic instruments only, please. For information, call Jim Van Luven at (989) 845-6721 or Dave Smith at (989) 865-9393. Admission is free.

• New Lothrop VFW Post 6579 Auxiliary will host a BUS TRIP to the Firekeepers Casino in Battle Creek on Monday, Oct. 29. The bus will pick up people at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 400 N. Saginaw St., Montrose, at 8:30 a.m. and will return at approximately 6 p.m. The cost is $40 per person, of which each will receive $20 for casino play and $5 for food on their card. • The ANNUAL DINNER MEETING of the Shiawassee Agricultural Society is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8. Community members are invited to show their support for the Shiawassee County Fair, its board of directors and the youth of the county by becoming a member of the Society. Yearly dues are $6 per person or $10 for a couple. Membership must be paid into the fair office by Wednesday, Oct. 31 to be eligible to vote. This year’s annual meeting will be held at the Durand VFW Hall, 932 N. Saginaw St. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. and the business meeting with awards at 7 p.m. followed by a reverse raffle. Dinner reservations are $15 per person and must be made no later than Wednesday, Nov. 21 in to the fair office. This year’s reverse raffle has only 200 tickets available. These tickets are $100 each and may be purchased by individuals or groups. Tickets are available for purchase through board members or at the fair office.

FUNDRAISERS

• The Living Proof Together Foundation will host its second annual COMEDY FOR CANCER FUNDRAISER on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20 at Riverfront Grille in Chesaning. New this year is an Oktoberfest Beer Tent from 5 to 11 p.m. Tickets for Oct. 20 are still available and can be purchased at the Living Proof Together Foundation Facebook page and at the Riverfront Grille for $25. Tickets include entry to the beer tent, four beer samplings, and live entertainment. The comedy show starts at 8 p.m. Entry for the beer tent only is $10 and includes four beer samplings and live entertainment. Shaun Jones is this year’s headliner, and has appeared on national television shows such as “Comic View,” “One Mic Stand,” “Off The Chain,” and Showtime’s “1 Amendment.” He also appeared in the 2003 movie “Shade” with Sylvester Stallone and Jamie

Foxx. Funds raised from this event will provide financial support to families fighting cancer through the Living Proof Together Foundation.

• Get ready for BUDDY’S SUPER HERO POKER RUN on Sunday, Oct. 7. This fundraiser will take riders and drivers through scenic countryside and multiple stops, including Watershed Creek in New Lothrop; the Back Forty Bar in Chesaning; the Korner Bar in Owosso; the 206 Bar in Durand; and Midway Tavern in Lennon. Motorcycles, jeeps, cars, horses and buggies are welcome. Registration opens at 10 a.m. at Watershed Creek in New Lothrop, and the poker run will begin at noon. The cost to enter is $12. Along the way, there will be giveaways, prizes, silent and live auctions, a dinner buffet, raffles and a performance by the band Junkyard Revival. Participants do not have to enter the poker run to take part in the dinner, auctions or raffles. All proceeds benefit the Miller family in their ongoing efforts to raise funds for Braden “Buddy” Miller, who is undergoing treatment for a rare brain tumor.

• The FALL PURSE PARTY BINGO to benefit Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee will be on Thursday, Oct. 18. The doors open at 5:45 p.m., games start at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Owosso. Tickets are on sale at Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee office, 710 W. King St. Owosso, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For each bingo game (20) a specific purse of a retail value of at least $45 will be the prize. Additional bingo cards can be purchased. Snacks, coffee, ice water, tie-breaker prizes, and door prizes will be provided. This is an adults-only event. For more information, call (989) 725-1127.

• Memorial Healthcare Foundation will be holding its annual GO GREEN! GO BLUE! TAILGATE PARTY on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Owosso Country Club. New this year is a 5K race to be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Fortitude Outdoor Fitness, 4377 S. M-52 in Owosso. This year’s chairs of the event are Go Blue! Doug Rowden and Go Green! Dan Mills. All are welcome to attend this annual high-spirited, in-state rivalry event. For more information or to register for the 5K contact the Foundation office or email lfreeman@memorialhealthcare.org. Tickets for the Tailgate Party are $20 per person (cash bar) with festivities kicking off at 6:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Foundation at (989) 729-4675 or at the door the evening of the event until capacity is reached. Many exciting activities will be held throughout the evening including spirit merchandise sales, raffles, and a charity silent auction. Go Green! or Go Blue! sponsorships can also be purchased by contacting the foundation office, located at 1637 W. Main St. in Owosso. All proceeds raised will support Memorial Healthcare scholarship fund providing scholarships for healthcare careers.

SENIOR CITIZENS

• The BRADY SENIOR CENTER, in the Brady Township Hall, 16020 Peet Road, Oakley, will offer blood pressure checks at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 19. The October birthday party will be Friday, Oct. 26. The Halloween party will be on Wednesday, Oct. 31, which will also be bring-a-friend day. The center offers euchre and other games, and bingo on Thursdays. Call Laura at (989) 845-7200 for more information. Those planning to eat a meal are asked to call ahead.

• The Chesaning Young at Heart Club is sponsoring a TURKEYVILLE BUS TRIP on Saturday, Nov. 10. The group will see a show entitled “Christmas Again.” Interested persons can sign up at the Chesaning Senior Center, 218 Church St. To prevent cancellation, at least 40 reservations are required. SUPPORT GROUPS

• The OWOSSO PARKINSON’S DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP will meet on Wednesday Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Memorial Healthcare, 826 W. King St., Owosso. The guest speaker will be Renee Krupp, speech pathologist. Many people with Parkinson’s have trouble with speech. The support group provides information, encouragement, fellowship and support. FOOD PANTRIES

• There will be FOOD DISTRIBUTION on the second Saturday of each month behind Trinity United Methodist Church in Chesaning. Service will be at 4:30 p.m. with distribution at 5 p.m.

REUNIONS

• The ST. CHARLES CLASS OF 1960 will be holding a reunion on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Rustic Inn, in St. Charles. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. Those attending will be ordering off the menu.
