90th Birthday

Robert Weigold Robert Weigold Robert Weigold, of Chesaning, recently celebrated his 90th birthday with an open house for family and friends. He was born on July 11, 1928, the son of Paul and Neva Weigold. He was born in a 1925 Jewitt automobile near Oakley on the way to the hospital in Owosso. He also has a brother, Jim (Kathy) Weigold, of Chesaning.

After the passing of both of their spouses, Bob married Marion (Lycka) Pirochta on November 21, 1970, combining his three children and her three children to form the Bunch on Brady Road. His six children are Linda (Bill) Young, Steve (Sue) Weigold, Lisa (Rocky) Rokowsky, the late Tammy (Terry) Bennett, Cindy (Steve) Tikkanen, and Lorraine (Larry) DeHues. He also has 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

He worked for 60 years, and owned Weigold Floral Company of Chesaning, retiring in 2000. He thrives in 90-plus degree weather after being in hot greenhouses for so many years. “Turn that air conditioning off” is his usual plea.

He was the valedictorian of the Chesaning High School Class of 1945, a member of the Army Amphibious Landing Craft Regiment from 1951- 1952, president of the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce in 1954, a former Rotarian, a member of the 1960 Chesaning fast pitch softball state championship team, Chesaning Showboat chairman in 1972, president of the Michigan State Floral Association in 1982, and past board member and honorary trustee of Memorial Healthcare of Owosso.

Bob enjoyed volunteering for years as Chesaning football statistician and track timer.

He loves being with family and friends, playing bingo at Soaring Eagle Casino, playing cards, going for rides on his golf cart and working on jigsaw puzzles.
