Summer Reading: Summer reading sign-up began on Thursday, June 14.

Non-Resident Cards: During the month of June all non-resident cards will be at the special price of $40 per year.

Drummity: On Tuesday, July 10 at 1 p.m., drum circle facilitator Lori Fithian will be visiting our kids with her collection of hand drums and percussion toys for each of our participants. This will be a loud, high-energy program. This special performance is sponsored by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council.

June is Amnesty Month – return any overdue or lost item during the month of June and all fees and fines, except for debt collection fees, associated with that item will be waived.

The Summer Reading Program for all ages runs thru July 27. Program information can be found on our website or picked up at the library.

Youth Bowling Day at the Alley will be Tuesday, June 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please call the library to register.

Superhero Day! will be Thursday, June 28 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the library.

The Hook and Needle Group will meet on Tuesday, June 19, at 1 p.m.

The Adult Coloring Group will meet on Friday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to noon at our new location.

The library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

The Genesee District Library (GDL) Summer Reading Challenge is underway. Patrons may visit one of GDL’s 19 branches to pick up their reading logs and sign-up prize.

Until August 4 participants can earn prizes for hitting reading benchmarks. At the end of the challenge children will earn a free book. They may also visit their library each week to put their name in a drawing for bigger prizes, including bowling parties, iPad Minis, Amazon and Flint Farmers’ Market gift cards and toys. Adults may participate as well, and at the end will win a free t-shirt or lunch bag for completing the challenge.

Last year over 6,000 people participated. The Summer Reading Challenge is supported by proceeds from the Black History Month Brunch held in February. It is also sponsored by Cumulus Media, Bowl Flint, Genesee County Fair, Culver’s Restaurant, Biggby Coffee, Rainforest Café and Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Gardening for Wildlife – The Montrose- Jennings Library will present Gardening for Wildlife on Tuesday, June 19 at 4 p.m. Forget the bug spray and have the bats do the work. This engaging and educational family program will help you meet the needs of native wildlife, understand the connection between plants and backyard critters, and learn more about Michigan’s native wildflowers. You’ll also meet live animals such as a big brown bat, an owl and a flying squirrel. All ages are welcome.

Writers’ Group – The Montrose-Jennings Library Writer’s Group will meet Thursday, June 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. This group is open to the public.

The Community District Library will kick off its eight-week “Libraries Rock!” summer reading program on Monday, June 11. Kids will earn tokens by recording their reading times on a concert ticket reading log. After completing the ticket, they can spin the prize wheel for a chance to earn more tokens. Tokens may be redeemed at the library’s Rock Store through Aug. 4.

Teens who sign up will receive an all-access pass to record their hours read. Awesome prizes await them as they complete their reading logs.

Libraries Rock! All children ages 0-17 are invited to join us at the Taymouth Township Library for the summer reading program. Sign-up for the six week program began on June 4. The events include Science Alive, Magic Steve, a Libraries Rock jam session, weekly prizes, reading incentives and more.
