GOVERNMENT MEETINGS

MAPLE GROVE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, in the township hall, 17010 Lincoln Road.

MONTROSE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 in the Township Hall, 11444 Seymour Road.

CHESANING VILLAGE COUNCIL will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in the council chambers at the village office, 1100 W. Broad Street.

CLUBS AND CIVIC GROUPS

• The MONTROSE BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL COMMITTEE will meet at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Montrose Depot, 154 W. State St., Montrose. Visitors should contact the festival email at montroseblueberryfestival@hotmail.com one week prior to the meeting in order to be placed on the agenda.

• The SHIAWASSEE QUILTERS meet on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St. Some of their activities include making charity quilts, quilt speakers, trunk shows, round robins, mystery quilts, prizes, free fat quarters, and tips of the months.

• The BURT AMERICAN LEGION POST #99 meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Burt Opera House, 12888 Nichols Road, Burt.

CHESANING SPORTS BOOSTERS will meet on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. in room 401 at Chesaning High School.

• The ST. CHARLES LIONS CLUB meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the St. Charles United Methodist Church, 301 W. Belle St., St. Charles.

• The TAYMOUTH TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION meets on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Taymouth Township Library, 2361 E. Burt Road, Burt.

CHURCHES

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop, 7495 Orchard St., will be hosting free SUMMERTIME MOVIES for kids. On Tuesday, June 19, the feature will be “CoCo” with frozen treats. Tuesday, July 17 will feature “Cars 3” with kids mixing their own trail mix. Tuesday, Aug. 14 will feature “Sing” with kids building fruit kabobs. All movies will be shown from 1 to 3 p.m.

LINDA D. MOTEN-ELLIOTT (MS, LMSE, CAADC, CCS-M) will be available every third Thursday of the month starting June 21 at 7 p.m. at the Burt Community of Christ, 1767 E. Burt Road, Burt to offer her services to anyone looking for support, direction and/or training due to a challenging situation and/or just unsure as to what to do.

ST. CHARLES SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST COMMUNITY CENTER is open the first and third Thursday of every month from 6:30 until 8 p.m. The center is located at the corner of Clinton and Marcy Streets in St. Charles, and serves those who are in need of gently used clothing, household items and furniture (when available). The center also accept donations of gently used clothing, household items and furniture. Interested persons should stop by if they need assistance or have any questions.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

RESPITE VOLUNTEERS OF SHIAWASSEE is offering volunteer training workshops at a mutually convenient time. Call (989) 725-1127 and schedule training. Snacks will be provided.

SCHOOLS

ST. CHARLES COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, in the conference room, 891 W. Walnut Street, St. Charles.

NEW LOTHROP AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, June 18, for a regular meeting and budget hearing in the high school library, 9285 Easton Rd., New Lothrop.

CHESANING UNION SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 18, in the high school media center.

SUPPORT GROUPS

• The Memorial Healthcare free DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP will meet on the fourth Friday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Durand Senior Center, 8750 Monroe Road, Durand. For more information, call (989) 729-4712 or (800) 206-8706, ext. 6655.

• The Memorial Healthcare PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets on the third Monday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at the Memorial Cancer Center, 721 N. Shiawassee St., Owosso. For more information, call (989) 729-4786.

BAZAARS AND CRAFT SHOWS

• The St. Robert Council of Catholic Women will be holding their annual RUMMAGE SALE on Wednesday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Robert Activity Center, 310 N. Cherry St., Flushing. Admission is free and all sales are final. No early customers will be permitted. There will be clothing, linens, appliances, sporting goods, seasonal items, books, children’s toys, puzzles and games, glass and dishware and many collectibles. Proceeds will benefit the North End Soup Kitchen, Shelter of Flint, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Heart Beat, St. Robert School, and other area charities. VENDORS ARE WANTED for a crafts bazaar to be held Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 W. Brady Road, Chesaning. The cost is $20 for an eight foot space, $25 after Oct. 6, $5 less if vendor brings his or her own table. To register, contact Dianne Stanuszek at (989) 865-9709.

FUNDRAISERS

Hosted by the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce, tickets to win a 2019 MACKINAC ISLAND TRAVEL PACKAGE are on sale now. The cost is $5 per ticket. The two-person package features a one-room, two-night stay at the Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island in 2019, (redeemable May 3 - June 27, or Aug. 11 - Oct. 27.) Retailing over $2,000, it includes breakfast and dinner for two, round-trip ferry rides to the island, horse-drawn carriage ride, and taxes and fees. Tickets are available at local businesses and area events, including the fireworks display in Showboat Park on June 28. Tickets will also be sold during this year’s Candlelight Walk, Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24. Sales will end shortly before the 8 p.m. drawing on Nov. 24. SENIOR CITIZENS

• The First Church of Christ Prime Timers will be on the road again with a MOTOR COACH TRIP to San Antonio, Texas Oct. 25 - Nov. 5. Some of the attractions they will experience are the San Antonio River Walk, a River Walk Cruise, the Alamo, Padre Island National Seashore, Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, Texan Culture and National Pacific war Museums, LBJ Ranch and Magnolia Silo in Waco and many more. This year marks the 15th year the Prime Timers have partnered with Diamond Tours. This trip includes 11 nights lodging and five consecutive days in the San Antonio area. It includes 11 breakfasts and nine dinners. Also included is admission to all attractions and tips for drivers and step-on guides. The cost for all this is $1,020 per person double occupancy. ODDS AND ENDS

• The ST. CHARLES FARMERS’ MARKETPLACE will be held on Tuesdays this year in Coal Miners Park in St. Charles from July 10 to Oct. 16. It will continue to accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) assistance payments and debit and credit card transactions. Special events throughout the season will be held including the Haunted Fall Harvest in October. This year, it will have a paid market master to assist in the weekly market activities. Vendor registration is open. Those interested in becoming a vendor or a community sponsor may call the village office at (989) 865-8287 or email stcmarketplace@stcmi.com.
