Book signing at Broad Street

Julie (Shaw) Wenzlick Julie (Shaw) Wenzlick Former Chesaning High School English teacher and children’s author Julie (Shaw) Wenzlick will be at Broad Street Pharmacy on Tuesday, June 12 from 3-6 p.m. to sign copies of her new book, “The Day Maisie and Annabelle Got the Giggles.” This book is the third in her series of rhyming books featuring granddaughters Annabelle and Maisie as characters.

Illustrated by Utah artist Jaime Buckley, the tale centers around two quarreling sisters whose mother sends them outside. While jumping on a neighbor’s trampoline, the girls encounter the strange Gigglepuss. Suddenly they are giggling uncontrollably. Their parents soon realize that non-stop giggles are no joke, and they seek a cure for the mysterious malady.

They take their daughters to the same doctor they visited in “The Day Annabelle was Bitten by a Doodlebug,” one of two books recognized as honorable mention by the Writer’s Digest Book Awards for 2017.

“Fans of the Doodlebug will be happy to know he appears in the Giggle story,” Wenzlick said.

The idea for “The Day Maisie and Annabelle Got the Giggles” came from an old nickname the author’s mother gave her and a friend as they giggled through church services in the 1960s.

“She called us Gigglepuss 1 and Gigglepuss 2,” said Wenzlick, who dedicated this tale to her late mother, Marjorie Hass.

All five of her books are on sale at Broad Street Pharmacy and all locations of Hass Vision Center.

Wenzlick enjoys presenting her books and accompanying songs to area elementary students. She collaborated with a Big Rock art teacher, Mary Beningo, on a book called “One Hungry Dragon.”

“I love sharing my stories with children,” Wenzlick said. “I especially love running into kids months later and having them recall a song or chant that I taught them.”
