STC district library hosts grand opening of new location

A plaque presentation took place during the St. Charles District Library’s event on Thursday, June 7 that helped celebrated its new location. CHARLES – Over 60 visitors including village officials, members of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), Friends of the Library, library board members and area residents were on-site at the new location of the St. Charles District Library for its grand opening event Thursday, June 7.

St. Charles District Library Board President Audrey Burns led the dedication ceremony, during which she thanked those who were integral in the purchase and relocation of the new site at 132 S. Saginaw St. in St. Charles. It first opened its doors to the public Monday, May 14.

Photo by Mandilee Hecht On her list included various donors who contributed to the library such as the Robert F. Loomis Foundation, DDA and Josephine Manzoni Trust.

She said contributions like the $105,000 from the Loomis Fund helped get the project off and running.

“Your sizable donation was the spark we needed to light the fire that got us going in the right direction,” Burns said.

She also thanked The State Bank, Tri- Township Fire Department, Library Director Nannette Pretzer, library board of directors, Friends of the Library group, and library patrons.

We couldn’t have accomplished all this without people like you,” she said to the crowd. “We did all this without a millage raise and it was accomplished by people like you.”

Plaques of appreciation were presented to the Robert F. Loomis Foundation, the DDA, and the Josephine Manzoni Trust.

In addition to the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony, tours, refreshments and a book sale helped introduced the community to the new site.
