Ram kickers bury Hatchets

Montrose’s varsity girls’ soccer team extended its win streak with a 6-0 blanking of Bad Axe on Wednesday, March 28.

The Rams peppered the Hatchet net in the first half, but were limited to just two goals from captain Remington Hobson. Both were unassisted.

In the second half, the Rams continued their pressure in the attacking third. Emma Gipe made it 3-0 early in the second half on an unassisted goal. Paige Madden netted two straight goals midway through the second half, and Gipe finished the scoring with just under three minutes left in the game.

Assisting in Madden’s first goal was Amber Wing, and Izzie Beavers set up Gipe’s second goal.

Keeper Lexi Fisk was called on to make just one save in her shutout effort.

“We played really well all around,” said Montrose coach Jason Perrin. “We were snake-bit early around the net, but our senior Remington Hobson really carried us. She has that rare ability to just take control of a game with her speed and tenacity.”

He added, “In the second half, things started to come together for us a little more. Up top our depth is exciting. We have at least six girls who can be a threat to score at any moment. As long as we keep up the pressure on the attack and work to improve in the back end, we’ll be okay.”

The Rams are 2-0 on the young season.
