Montrose cagers roll past Genesee Christian, 61-44

MONTROSE – A big second quarter surge on offense spurred Montrose’s varsity boys’ basketball team to a solid 61-44 win over visiting Genesee Christian on Friday, February 2.

“We had not been playing hard enough recently, so it was nice to see us performing with purpose and aggressiveness tonight,” remarked Montrose coach Jason Danek after his team’s non-conference win. “We were flying all around the court, which was fun to watch, and we really caught fire in the second quarter. This was a nice win for us.”

The Rams came up with 23 steals on defense and broke the contest open with a 20-6 scoring advantage in the second quarter. Many of those points originated as a result of defensive pressure by Montrose at the other end of the court.

Montrose hit on 27 of 60 field goal attempts for a solid 45%.

Logan Rhyndress led the offense with 20 points to go with 11 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Tanner Ruiz canned 17 points and came up with 7 steals.

Eric Vandefifer added 14 points, 6 steals and 5 assists while Adam Stiverson finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.
