Rams return to winning ways in romp over Railroaders, 69-0

MONTROSE – After suffering two disheartening losses in a row, Montrose’s varsity football team returned to the winning side of the ledger in a big way by rolling over visiting Durand last Friday, 69-0.

Quarterback Jake Schneider hooked up with Cornelius Hall on a 59-yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage and there was no stopping the Rams the rest of the first half as they ran away to a 62-0 lead at halftime.

Dennis Reinhart’s squad led 42-0 at the end of the opening quarter as Hall’s TD catch was followed by TD runs of 58 and 14 yards by Bubba Reinhart, a 50-yard scamper by Schneider, a 38-yard dash to pay dirt by Jake Palinsky and a 40-yard interception return for six points by Jared Long.

Tommy Brower took in an 8-yard pass from Schneider for a second-quarter score, followed by TD runs of 16 and 9 yards by John DeMura and Schneider.

Richie Wallis wrapped up the scoring with a 51-yard run to the end zone in the fourth quarter. Tyler Burch kicked nine PAT’s before the night was over.

“It was a good bounce-back win and it also gave everyone a chance to get some playing time,” said Coach Reinhart.

Schneider finished the night with 119 yards rushing and 94 yards passing. Reinhart gained 102 yards on the ground and Wallis finished with 51 yards on just two carries. Fourteen different Rams carried the ball before the evening was over.

Defensively, Reinhart and DeMura led the way with 10 and 8 tackles, respectively, as the Rams evened their record to 2-2.

“Now, we face a tough Goodrich team that will be coming off a tough loss tonight against Beecher and will be waiting for us on their Homecoming Night,” commented Coach Reinhart. “We will have to play four full quarters of solid football against them. We haven’t put it all together yet this season, and that is something all of us here are intending to do on Friday.”
