NEW LOTHROP – Quentin Taylor ran for three first-half touchdowns last Friday as New Lothrop’s varsity football team put away visiting Bendle early en route to an easy 44-14 win.

The Hornets dismantled their GAC-Blue opponents as they raced to a 22-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and to a 37-0 cushion at intermission in a contest that was played under a running clock for all but the final 48 seconds of the final stanza.

Taylor scored on runs of 2, 11 and 14 yards, Luke Krupp bolted in for an 8-yard score and Erik Birchmeier returned an interception for six points to settle the issue before halftime.

Birchmeier ran for a 4-yard score late in the third quarter to finish the scoring for NL as they went ahead, 44-0, with 2:28 to go in the period.

Bendle scored two inconsequential TD’s in the fourth to complete the scoring for the night, the last coming with just 48 seconds to go.

Birchmeier rushed for 155 yards on 21 carries and Taylor picked up 38 yards on five tries. Birchmeier completed 5 of 6 passes covering 68 yards. Steven Garza had two receptions for 59 yards.

Donald Quaderer was the leading tackler for the Hornets with three solo tackles and four assists. Drew Dice had three solo stops and an assist. Carter Hemgesberg and Luke Harris each had two solos and two assist tackles as NL dominated through the first three quarters of the contest.

The win improves New Lothrop’s record to 2-0 in the GAC-Blue and to 4-0 overall heading into next Friday’s homecoming game against Byron.
