High-flying Hawks handle Hornets, 79-54

NEW LOTHROP – Hamady’s high-powered offense came to town Friday night and handed New Lothrop’s varsity cagers a 79-54 loss.

The Hornets hung with the Hawks in the first quarter, trailing 11-8, but Hamady then went on to out-score the hosts 23-12 in the second, 20-19 in the third and 25-15 in the fourth.

“We were down by one in the second quarter and then Hamady went on a run,” New Lothrop coach Jeremy Fisher said. “We cut it to nine in the third quarter, but we never got it closer than that.”

Turnovers hurt the Hornets. They gave up 28 on the night. They didn’t have a bad shooting night, hitting 18 of 29 from two point range for 62 percent, and 4 of 13 from three point range for 37 percent.

DeAndre Johnson led the Hornets with 21 points. Jared Crawford chipped in 13 points. Tyler Bennett grabbed eight rebounds with his four points. Leo Harris had six points and six boards. Joe Jamick added four points.

For the Hawks, Dominez Burnett hit his average of 21 points. Ples Hunter and Darryl Dixon added 16 points each.

With the loss the Hornets drop to 3-6 on the year, 1-4 in the Genesee Area Conference. They are on the road this week, traveling to Byron on Tuesday and Genesee on Friday.
