Montrose cagers derail Durand, 52-46

MONTROSE – The Montrose boys basketball team fell behind in the first half but came on strong in the second to take a 52-46 win over Durand last Friday night.

The Rams trailed 19-16 after the first quarter and 32-26 at intermission but outscored the Railroaders 26-14 in the second half to clinch the victory.

“They played quite a bit of zone on us tonight and we got a little impatient in the first half,” Montrose coach Rick Ustishen said. “We just got out of rhythm with our shots.

“But in the second half we picked it up tremendously. We held them to just 14 points and did an excellent job defensively.”

Keith Boswell led the Rams with 19 points, 16 rebounds, five steals, three blocks and two assists, while Will Sams added 18 points, 15 rebounds, five steals and two assists and Joey Anderson10 points and two assists

Montrose connected on 16-of-40 shots from twopoint range, three-of-17 from the three-point arc and 12-of-25 from the free throw line.

The win moves the Rams to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Genesee Area Conference Red Division.
