Government Meetings

MAPLE GROVE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, in the township hall, 17010 Lincoln Road. • CHESANING VILLAGE PLANNING COMMISSION will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22, in the council chambers at the village office, 1100 W. Broad St., Chesaning.

Clubs/Civic Groups

CHESANING LIONS CLUB members will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22 at the Lions Hall, 17200 Corunna Road, Chesaning. • MONTROSE AMERICAN LEGION POST #367 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the Montrose Senior Citizen Center, 200 Alfred. Any veteran who wishes to learn more about joining the legion may attend. • CHESANING TASK FORCE will meet between 7 and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce office.

Odds & Ends

• The Chesaning High School Media Center is selling 2 GB USB THUMB DRIVES for $16 each. They come in orange or black, and have “Chesaning Indians” engraved on one side, and the Indian head logo on the other. They are made in the United States and would make great Christmas gifts for high school students. Please contact Mrs. Zeigler at (989) 845-2040 for more information. • Reservations can now be made for the Lutheran Home Care Agency’s Hospice of Hope 11th. Annual HOSPICE BENEFIT DINNER. The dinner will be 5:30 p.m. Jan. 13, 2010, at the Bavarian Inn Lodge Frankenmuth. The cost of the evening is $30; reservations may be made by calling the agency at 989.652.4663 prior to Jan. 8, 2010 or e-mailing homecare@AgingEnriched.org. Keynote speaker will be Tess Marshall, www.TheBoldLife.com, a life coach and author of “Flying by the Seat of My Soul.” Her personal experience searching for greater meaning, purpose and happiness is the basis of her talk. Proceeds from the benefit dinner are used to fund bereavement services and Camp Hope, a special bereavement camp for children who have lost a loved one through death. • COATS AND TOYS for the Chesaning Area Emergency Relief (CAER) Center are being collected at the Chesaning Burger King, 1310 W. Brady St. Kids Day is every second Tuesday of the month.

Fundraisers

• The ST. CHARLES HISTORICAL MUSEUM is offering the last few copies of the historical publication, "St. Charles, Michigan, The Early Years- 1848 thru 1970, A Scrapbook History", written by local author Dale Greve. Copies can be obtained from The St. Charles Hartley Memorial Library, St. Charles Village Office, Bare's Sporting Goods, Dave's Barber Shop,and Rodger's Dollar Store , or by calling 865-6833. The books are priced at $16.00 at the counter or $20.00 by mail order. All proceeds are donated back to the St. Charles Museum. Churches

WEDNESDAY NIGHT CLUB meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the Montrose United Methodist Church, 158 E. State St., with dinner at 5:30 p.m. and program at 6 p.m. • Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELS), 16070 W. Brady Road at the corner of M-57 and Hemlock Road, announces several SPECIAL DIVINE SERVICES to celebrate the birth of Christ. On Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, two special services are scheduled. "Come, Lord Jesus"--A Childrens' Christmas Eve Service, featuring the children of the congregation, is scheduled for 6 p.m. "Promises Fulfilled"--A Candlelight Christmas Eve Service, featuring the congregation's choir, is scheduled for 8 p.m. On Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, the congregation will observe Christ's birth with a Festival Service at 10:15 a.m. On the Sunday after Christmas, Dec. 27, the regular schedule of Divine Services at 7:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. will be observed. A Christmas "Sweets and Treats" time of food and friendship will be held between services, beginning at 9 a.m. (those attending are asked to bring a dozen of their favorite cookies, candies, bars, etc. to share). Schools CHESANING UNION SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at the High School in room 401. • NEW LOTHROP AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21 in the High School Library, 9285 Easton Rd., New Lothrop.

Veterans

MARINE CORPS LEAGUE STATE SERVICE OFFICER Bill Traylor will be at the Shiawassee County Veterans’ Affairs office on Tuesday, Dec. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call the office at (989) 743-2231.

Support Groups

• There will be a HOLIDAY PET MEMORY BOX WORKSHOP on Monday, Dec. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Zauel Library, 3100 N. Center Road, Saginaw. This workshop is for anyone who has lost a pet. Participants will make a beautiful memory box to store their pets’ keepsakes. The cost is $5 (to cover materials). Most materials are supplied, but participants are encouraged to bring something special to add, like pictures or other precious items. Reservations are needed, and can be made by calling Sara at (989) 295-7144 by Dec. 14. Refreshments will be served. • ALS Association-Michigan Chapter SUPPORT GROUP will meet on Monday, Dec. 21, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 545 7th St., Freeland from 6:30 to 8 p.m. For further information, contact ALS Association-MI Chapter at 1-866-927-2873.
