St. Charles hosts Sandusky Friday night (UPDATED)

Hornets headed to Sterling Heights

The Michigan High School Athletic Association has announced the playoff pairings for the 2009 state football championship post-season.
In Division 6, the St. Charles Bulldogs will play host to Sandusky on Friday night, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium. The Redskins completed the regular season with a 6-3 record, and enter the playoffs as a No. 4 seed in their district.
While the Bulldogs haven’t played Sandusky in recent years, they have scrimmaged with the Redskins in the last few years, so there is some familiarity.
“We’re glad to be a Number One seed again this year,” said St. Charles coach Brady Lake. “We like playing in front of the home crowd.”
He added, “I really like the way the team is playing right now. We’re just going to take one game at a time.”
On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 seed Reese will play host to No. 3 seed Elkton-Pigeon-Bayport Laker.
In Division 8, the 6-3 New Lothrop Hornets will be traveling to 7-2 Sterling Heights Parkway Christian on Friday night for a 7 p.m. game. The game will be played at Fraser High School. The Hornets are the No. 3 seed, while the Eagles are the No. 2 seed.
“I’m please with our draw and feel confident that we can compete in this district,” New Lothrop coach Clint Galvas said. “Parkway Christian is a tough school who runs a spread offense, however I think we match up with them very well.”
In the other district bracket, No. 4 seed Deckerville will travel to No. 1 seed Waterford Our Lady for a 2 p.m. Saturday game.
“I have watched Waterford this year and was impressed by their size, however Deckerville has had the tougher schedule and runs the wing-T to perfection, so this one could go either way,” Galvas said.
He added, “As a team we are excited to be in this position and are pleased with our draw. We are just going to take it one game at a time. I truly feel we have the talent on this team to make a run, and the players believe we can as well.”
