GOVERNMENT MEETINGS

MAPLE GROVE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 21, in the township hall, 17010 Lincoln Road.

CHESANING VILLAGE PLANNING COMMISSION will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 in the council chambers, 1100 W. Broad St.

CLUBS AND CIVIC GROUPS

CHESANING LIONS CLUB members will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 at the Lions Hall, 17200 Corunna Road, Chesaning.

MONTROSE AMERICAN LEGION POST #367 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the Montrose Senior Citizen Center, 200 Alfred St. Any veteran who wishes to learn more about joining the legion may attend.

CHESANING LIONS CLUB members will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 at the Lions Hall, 17200 Corunna Road, Chesaning.

CHESANING AREA TASK FORCE will meet at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce office. The Task Force encourages visitors and welcomes requests to be placed on the agenda. Anyone interested in serving on the Task Force board in the future or seeking information about Task Force can call (989) 845-6061.

• The TAYMOUTH TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION meets on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Taymouth Township Library, 2361 E. Burt Road, Burt.

PARK FRIENDS continue to meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 9 to 10 a.m. at Cole Park in Chesaning. It’s a good place to meet new friends and improve the parks. Any questions, call 845-2258.

• On Wednesday, May 23, at 5 p.m., Trinity United Methodist Church in Chesaning will be hosting a HUMAN TRAFFICKING CLASS in the fellowship hall. Trooper Smith from the Tri-City Post of the Michigan State Police will be conducting the class. Pastor Timothy Woycik welcomes all to attend. FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP

• The New Lothrop VFW Post 6579 Auxiliary is holding its semi-annual PASTY SALE on Monday and Tuesday, May 21 and 22. Beef pasties are $4 each. Pick-up is Monday from 2: to 6 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 6 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 400 N Saginaw St., Montrose. SCHOOLS

ST. CHARLES COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, in the conference room, 891 W. Walnut Street, St. Charles.

NEW LOTHROP AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 21, for a regular meeting in the High School Library, 9285 Easton Rd., New Lothrop.

MONTROSE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 for a regular meeting in the Kuehn-Haven Middle School media center, 303 Ray St., Montrose.

SUPPORT GROUPS

• The Memorial Healthcare free DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP will meet on the fourth Friday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Durand Senior Center, 8750 Monroe Road, Durand. For more information, call (989) 729-4712 or (800) 206-8706, ext. 6655.

• The Memorial Healthcare PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets on the third Monday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at the Memorial Cancer Center, 721 N. Shiawassee St., Owosso. For more information, call (989) 729-4786.

• The SHIAWASSEE QUILTERS meet on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St. Some of their activities include making charity quilts, quilt speakers, trunk shows, round robins, mystery quilts, prizes, free fat quarters, and tips of the months.

SENIOR CITIZENS

• Valley Area Agency on Aging will host SENIOR POWER DAY on Wednesday, May 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crossroads Village, 6140 Bray Road, Flint. The annual event combines resources and information on services for seniors with entertainment and fun for a memorable day. Highlights this year include the senior health expo, vintage rides at the park, music, bingo and train rides. Tickets are $3 each and include admission to Crossroads Village, breakfast cereal bars, coffee, lunch, entertainment, senior health expo and drawings for door prizes. There will also be Share the Wealth raffle drawings at 10:30 a.m. and noon. Raffle tickets are $1, three for $2 or 10 for $5. Senior Power Day tickets are available at the Valley Area Agency on Aging offices, 225 E. Fifth St., Suite 300, Flint, or at senior centers in Genesee and Shiawassee counties. ODDS AND ENDS

• United Financial Credit Union will offer a free seminar on RETIREMENT PLANNING on Wednesday, May 23 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the 4685 State St., Saginaw branch. This informational session can help attendees set their financial direction and answer some of their questions. Space is limited. • The MONTROSE TOWNSHIP FARMER’S MARKET invites the public to its sixth year of operation beginning Thursday, June 7, from 4-8 p.m. at Barber Park, 11410 Seymour Road. This year the market format includes a food truck and games from 4:30-7:30 p.m. – bring a team or mix-and-match upon arrival to play corn hole, ladder ball and giant Jenga. It will operate on the first Thursday of each month, rather than its previous weekly arrangement. The market dates are: June 7, July 5, Aug. 2, Sept. 6 and Oct. 4. Food trucks scheduled to make an appearance include: HQ Vigilante Food Truck from Owosso, Cheese Trap Food Truck from Frankenmuth and Heave on a Roll Food Truck from Howell. Vendors are welcome to apply for a $10 rental space. Market Manager Linda Miller, is available on-site at the market or can be reached at (810) 533-4880. • There will be a COMMUNITY BINGO LUNCHEON from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the fellowship hall of Nativity Lutheran Church, 625 W. Clinton St., in St. Charles. Friends of all ages are welcome. Bring a couple dollars’ worth of quarters and, if possible, a dish to pass for the potluck lunch. FUNDRAISERS

• Jordan Fisher, owner of Pawsome Fun, will be holding a LOW-COST PET CARE DAY in Chesaning’s Showboat Park on Sunday, May 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit Braden “Buddy” Miller, who has DIPG, an inoperable brain tumor. Fisher will be offering toenail trims on dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, goat or anything with nails, except birds, as well as ear cleanings and gland expressions. A 4-H group is participating as well, making homemade dog treats. All money raised is being donated to the Miller family.

BAZAARS AND CRAFT SHOWS

• The Shiwassee County Historical Society will be holding its three-day NAKED YARD SALE (no clothes) on Thursday, May 31, Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2 from 9 to 5 p.m. each day at the museum/archives building at the corner of N. M-52 and Wilkinson Road in Owosso. There will be lots of furniture, books and other items. There will be a half-price sale on Saturday. The building is handicapped accessible.
