GOVERNMENT MEETINGS

MAPLE GROVE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, July 16, in the township hall, 17010 Lincoln Road.

MONTROSE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 17 in the Township Hall, 11444 Seymour Road.

CHESANING VILLAGE COUNCIL will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, in the council chambers at the village office, 1100 W. Broad Street.

* MONTROSE CITY COUNCIL will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the new city office building at 139 S. Saginaw St., Montrose.

CLUBS AND CIVIC GROUPS

• The ST. CHARLES LIONS CLUB meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the St. Charles United Methodist Church, 301 W. Belle St., St. Charles.

• The BURT AMERICAN LEGION POST #99 meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Burt Opera House, 12888 Nichols Road, Burt.

• The ST. CHARLES AMERICAN LEGION POST 468 meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. in the American Legion Hall, St. Charles.

• The SHIAWASSEE QUILTERS meet on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St. Some of their activities include making

charity quilts, quilt speakers, trunk shows, round robins, mystery quilts, prizes, free fat quarters, and tips of the months.

• The MONTROSE BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL COMMITTEE will meet at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Montrose Depot, 154 W. State St., Montrose. Visitors should contact the festival email at montroseblueberryfestival@hotmail.com one week prior to the meeting in order to be placed on the agenda.

• The TAYMOUTH TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION meets on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Taymouth Township Library, 2361 E. Burt Road, Burt.

CHURCHES

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop, 7495 Orchard St., will be hosting free SUMMERTIME MOVIES for kids. Tuesday, July 17 will feature “Cars 3” with kids mixing their own trail mix. Tuesday, Aug. 14 will feature “Sing” with kids building fruit kabobs. All movies will be shown from 1 to 3 p.m.

LINDA D. MOTEN-ELLIOTT (MS, LMSE, CAADC, CCS-M) will be available every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Burt Community of Christ, 1767 E. Burt Road, Burt to offer her services to anyone looking for support, direction and/or training due to a challenging situation and/ or just unsure as to what to do.

ST. CHARLES SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST COMMUNITY CENTER is open the first and third Thursday of every month from 6:30 until 8 p.m. The center is located at the corner of Clinton and Marcy Streets in St. Charles, and serves those who are in need of gently used clothing, household items and furniture (when available). The center also accept donations of gently used clothing, household items and furniture. Interested persons should stop by if they need assistance or have any questions.

SUPPORT GROUPS

• The Memorial Healthcare free DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. on the third Friday of the month at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St.

• The Memorial Healthcare PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets on the third Monday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at the Memorial Cancer Center, 721 N. Shiawassee St., Owosso. For more information, call (989) 729-4786.

BAZAARS AND CRAFT SHOWS

VENDORS ARE WANTED for a crafts bazaar to be held Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 W. Brady Road, Chesaning. The cost is $20 for an eight foot space, $25 after Oct. 6, $5 less if vendor brings his or her own table. To register, contact Dianne Stanuszek at (989) 865-9709.

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop will hold its annual UMW RUMMAGE AND BAKE SALE Thursday, July 26 through Saturday, July 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., during the New Lothrop Car Show.

SCHOOLS

The CHESANING UNION SCHOOLS Board of Education will hold its annual organizational meeting on Monday, July 16 at 6 p.m. in the Chesaning High School media center.

ST. CHARLES COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, in the conference room, 891 W. Walnut Street, St. Charles.

ODDS AND ENDS

A Summer Step-up Blood Drive will be held at St. Peter Parish Hall in Chesaning, on Wednesday, July 18 from noon until 6 p.m. Hosted by the church’s youth group, if the group signs up 20 or more donors Michigan Blood will make a contribution of $10 to the St. Peter Parish Youth Group for every person who attempts to donate. FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP

• The Montrose Masonic Lodge will hold an old-time CHICKEN BARBECUE on Sunday, July 15 from noon to 3

p.m. at 130 Parkway St., Montrose. The cost is $10 and includes chicken, side dishes, beverage and desserts.

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop will hold its annual PULLED PORK SANDWICH boxed meal on Saturday, July 28 from noon to 3 p.m. during the New Lothrop Car Show. The boxed lunches include pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, cole slaw, two cookies, chips and water for $6.

• There will be a WET BURRITO DINNER at the St. Charles Masonic Temple every third Friday of the month from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $10. The Masons will also deliver. Call (989) 865-8568.

• New Wine Church, 734 Brady St., Chesaning, holds a FREE COMMUNITY DINNER on the third Saturday of the month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Menu varies each month. Those who need a ride can call (989) 845-7878.

FUNDRAISER

• A benefit to BENEFIT XAVIER’S BATTLE will be held Sunday, July 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Montrose Pub, 10174 W. Vienna Road in Montrose. It will include a buffet dinner from 2 to 4 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids aged 10 and under. The day will include a live auction with an auctioneer from 4 to 5 p.m., 50/50 raffles throughout the day and benefit t-shirts for purchase. Xavier, 13, has a rare and very aggressive blood cancer, Early T-Cell Precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ETP-ALL); he has been admitted to U of M Ann Arbor to undergo chemotherapy with hopes of a second bone marrow transplant. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help pay for treatment, transportation and other necessities for his treatment plan.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

RESPITE VOLUNTEERS OF SHIAWASSEE is offering volunteer training workshops at a mutually convenient time. Call (989) 725-1127 to schedule a training. Snacks will be provided.
